If you have decided to sell your used car, below you can find listed some important steps to follow.
Documents to be provided to the new buyer:
1. The vehicle’s V5C certificate – minus section 6, which you must detach and send to the DVLA to notify them that you are selling the car
2. The service history - including any relevant receipts or MOT certifications
3. Car manual/handbook
4. A receipt - Write out a simple receipt stating the key details about the car including the registration number, make, model and year and the VIN (chassis) number. The receipt should also contain both yours and the buyer's names and addresses. Also include thedate of purchase and the price paid for the vehicle. You'll need two copies of this receipt because both you and the buyer will want a copy.
When the sale is complete ensure you cancel your car insurance or transfer to another vehicle if you are buying another vehicle to replace the one you’ve sold and get a refund on your tax disc if you have any remaining months.
If you sell your car to a dealership like Peugeot Approved, especially when purchasing another car, new or used, then this process will be simplified as your Sales Advisor will guide you through everything required and will ask you to provide the necessary documents so nothing is missed.
Before selling a used car, you, the owner, must gather several documents needed for the sale and must complete the necessary paperwork to declare the sale and inform the parties involved.
